2014: Year of Hottest Rhetoric, Not of Hottest Climate

TUCSON, Ariz. The state of the Climate 2014 report by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the American Meteorological Society “delves into the details of already reported record-smashing warmth globally  in 2014,” according to the Associated Press.

The report actually states that there is an estimated 48% probability that 2014 is the warmest over the 1880 – 2014 period in the NOAA record. (NASA scientist Gavin Schmidt said the probability was 38%.)

How much warmer? It was about 0.02 degrees Celsius warmer than the previous record set in 2010—with an error of about 0.1 degree Celsius. It is also about 0.8 degrees Celsius (1.4 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than in 1880, at the end of the Little Ice Age.

Taking a longer perspective, Tim Ball notes that 2014 is in the coldest 3 percent of the last 10,000 years. The climate was much more benign and civilization thrived during the Roman Warm Period and the Medieval Warm Period. Until recently, the existence of warm periods and the Little Ice Age was denied by most believers in catastrophic, human-caused global warming, states Jane M. Orient. M.D., president of Physicians for Civil Defense.

AP quotes Jeff Severinghaus of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, who wasn’t part of the report: if this is Earth’s annual checkup, “the doctor is saying ‘you are gravely ill.’” The cause of the illness, AP implies, is human use of coal, oil, and natural gas, with the oceans “trapping” heat that has somehow not shown up in the atmosphere. The 18-year “pause” in the continuous global warming predicted by computer models has cast doubt on their credibility, Orient explains.

Of the tens of thousands of scientists who could refute this alarmist assessment, most will remain silent, Orient said, because of the climatist jihad against any view that would undermine the global energy-rationing agenda promoted by the UN and the White House.
